Wonderful evening encounter with the Southern Resident Orcas! Aug 21st, 09.

Here are just a few images from this evenings wonderful encounter with members of the Southern Resident Orcas. We headed out this evening with reports that all three pods had been sighted moving through Haro Strait. As we arrived on scene a few miles offshore of Lime Kiln Lighthouse we could see blows from Orcas in all directions, a sure sign of a Superpod!

We could see a lot of high-speed porpoising as the Orcas moved South past Lime Kiln and they were stretched out over to the Canadian side of Haro Strait. As we continued to observe the Orcas we witnessed a nice social interaction between members of J-pod that included J30 "Riptide", J27 "Blackberry" and J31 "Tsuchi". We witnessed several cartwheels, tailflukes, and even a couple of breaches.

Another stunning west coast sunset was the finale to a wonderful evening.
