L-pod and Porpoise! Oct 2nd, 2009.
Well so far October has continued to produce the amazing tours that we had in September and today was no exception! We traveled north of Turn Point where we encountered members of L-pod milling as we arrived on scene. Not long after we arrived the group then moved further into Boundary Passage and we then witnessed several Spyhops, Tailslaps, Kelping and half breaches!
After watching L-pod for a while we traveled to Spieden Island to show our passengers the exotic wildlife on this unique Island that was set up as a big game reserve. The reserve thankfully failed but some of the wildlife still remains on the island including Mouflon sheep from Corsica and Sika deer from Asia.
We also came across both Harbor and Dall's Porpoise and believe we also saw a couple of Hybrid Porpoise. These Hybrid's are created when Male Harbor Porpoise mate with Female Dall's Porpoise. We have seen an increasing number of Hybrid's recently.
On our way home we also stopped off at the Chain Islets to show our passengers the many Harbor Seals that use these islands as a haul out area.
With sunny skies and calm seas it was more like Spring on the water than Autumn:)
