J-pod & members of L-pod off San Juan Island! May 28th, 2010.

Here are a few images from todays encounters with J-pod and members of L-pod off San Juan Island. We saw several Orcas surfing in the waves today, which is always fun to watch.

The wind was blowing hard today but it did not stop our passengers from being thrilled by the Southern Resident Orcas including J27 "Blackberry" and J26 "Mike", the two males of J-pod born in 1991.

During our evening tour we observed a number of the Orcas actively hunting for their prey, Chinook Salmon. We also saw a couple of breaches, tailslaps and Spyhops.

What a day on the Salish Sea!

Here are pictures by Ron Bates, MMRG, from todays encounters with members of K-pod. The Orcas had first been sighted all the way down south at Admiralty Inlet this morning. However, when we went out on our 2.00pm tour we encountered K-pod on the west side of San Juan Island heading north.
