Eco-Adventure Tour! May 6th, 2010.
Here are a few images from todays spectacular wildlife tour!
We set out into the Strait Of Juan De Fuca on one of the most beautiful days we have had this spring. The Sun was out and the sea was calmer than it had been in weeks. These conditions made for perfect spotting and we encountered some amazing wildlife during our tour including Steller & California Sealions, Harbor Seals, Northern Elephant Seals, various sea birds including Rhinoceros Auklets, and even Harbor Porpoise!
At the Chain Islets we saw more Harlequin Ducks than any of us had ever seen in one spot before, at least 30 and most if not all we males. It was like a male Harlequin Duck Stag night;)
Then on our way home we saw a Bald Eagle chasing a young Seagull. As we watched in awe we suddenly saw another Eagle join in the fray and as the birds weaved through the sky we knew the poor Gull would not survive this encounter. Sure enough one of the Eagles catch the unfortunate Gull in its sharp talons!
It was a day we will not soon forget.
