Zinc Door

Welcome back everyone! How was your weekend? Anything wonderful happen to you??

For me, I had a lovely weekend! There's so much going on with both MadeByGirl & Cocoa & Hearts. I've been painting & shooting paintings as well as re-designing my main entire site, MadeByGirl - (probably blog too)! Then of course there's my personal life.... found a new church here in NYC that suits us both a bit more (I hope), so we shall see what happens.

So, this Monday morning I wanted to share a super cool store called Zinc Door. The shop is run by two talented ladies, Wendy Rossiter Estes & Tiffany Grayce Harris.

These ladies created the popular shop, Layla Grayce where they highlight their passion for traditional, European, cottage and coastal decor. This time around their shop Zinc Door brings us classics with an updated edge... which is totally my style! In fact, if I had money to burn, I'd furnish my entire place with Zinc Door.

Design: Kitchen Appeal

Don't you just love a wide open kitchen with lots of charm and appeal?

Drew here again, with a bundle of beautiful kitchens, designed by Alvhem {Market & Interior}.

This first kitchen took my breath away! The artichoke lighting, the contrast of the dark wood table with white chairs, the abundant greenery and plants scattered throughout, the open shelving and the peaceful view outside the large, open windows!

The other kitchens also left me with a sense of peacefulness. There's so much character in each little corner. From artwork to uplifting prints, to chandeliers and drop lighting to more plants and vegetables that brighten up the look and feel of each kitchen.

As spring is in full action, go buy some fresh flowers and greenery to spread out all over your kitchen in order to make the sweet smells fill the air each time you come to lounge and grab a bite!

Design: Tablescapes

Spring is finally upon us and there are so many tablescapes to start decorating for. It's Drew, showing you the basics to a simple table setup for your upcoming bridal showers, Easter brunches and other get togethers you are hosting as an excuse to break out your favorite china and colorful centerpieces.
With this tablescape, I was inspired by the new products offered at Zara Home.

If you haven't visited the site, you will definitely want to make a stop to admire all of the beautiful goodness it has to offer.

I used a colorful palette of corals, peaches, pinks and mint. For the accents, stemware and silverware I chose gold to give it a vintage, luxe feel. I think the contrast works really well for a spring tablescape.

Elle Decor April Issue....

Elle Decor's April issue is their International issue! Have you seen it yet? In it they feature decorator Lorenzo Castillo's home in Madrid, Spain. It's a HUGE 17th century home that used to be a former convent, can you believe that?!?

Check out all the cool mixture of prints and patterns in his home...and that checkered floor?!? Love it. You can see more of his home here.

Design: Decorating with Green

It's almost springtime and I'm pretty sure a lot of you have green on your mind. Drew here, showing you one of my favorite color trends going on right now. I can't seem to get this brilliant shade out of my head.

I mostly think of Cassandra over at Coco Kelley whenever there is an abundance of kelly green. So, I guess you can say this is a dedication to her favorite color and all of you other kelly green lovers!

What's especially striking is when a room is filled with an assortment of green shades. The contrast between a mint and hunter green is so charming and lush, while a jade and chartreuse can have you yearning for more of this natural hue. Check out how these rooms portray green in its utmost perfection!

Want to turn your favorite room into a green room, now?
Here are some pretty spiffy pieces to get you started!

Wanted: Super Chic Decor...

Been thinking a lot about how to decorate our new apartment in New York City. It's not that big, only 1000 sq ft. BIG difference leaving my home which is almost 3000 sq ft. Crazy huh?

Well, I'm sure I'm going to post a lot about this adventure & will welcome any design ADVICE from any Interior Designers out there. One apt (so much BIGGER than ours) that I loved, belongs to Cathy Triant Buxton. I love her style & would love my place to be as CHIC...!

She also has a WHITE sofa!!! I've decided to keep mine for now after seeing her apartment....it REALLY inspired me.

Any of you in the middle of moving right now?? Are you just as CRAZED & excited at the same time?

Book Review: Katie Ridder Rooms

Katie Ridder is known for fantastic interiors.  Her trademark approach to mixing antique and modern pieces, strong colors with artful patterns, and a wide array of ethnic styles is a hallmark of elegant interior design.

She's done interiors in every imaginable place - summer houses, Japanese pavilions, ritzy Manhattan apartments, and of course homes - & she's highly sought internationally for it!

Heather Smith MacIsaac's book "Katie Ridder Rooms" published by Vendome is 235 pages of luscious interiors in rich, full-color photos with lots of narrative, complete with a source guide!

One of the neat things in this book is a short segment near the end focusing on details - comparing wallpaper patterns, lampshades and upholstery styles. The book is meant to help the reader with ideas & it succeeds with every page.

Ridder's strength is her ability to mix.  While reading through, I noticed her amazing mix of multiple strong colors in a single space, with subtle secondary palettes to balance it.

In one living room, a rich velvet sofa sectional with Indonesian-influenced end tables, a Turkish pillow-ottoman, and glass floor lamps.  The Editor in Chief of Architectural Digest calls her interiors "confident, artful, elegant."

At a loss for ideas?

Check out "Katie Ridder Rooms" for some great inspiration.  Despite the luxury, her style is accessible and simple - they just take a bit of imagination & drama!

You can get your copy of this awesome book here.
